16 Lake Mount Vernon WA

This lake is one of only four waters in Skagit County managed with a seasonal fishing closure. Spring catch rates for trout are highest early in the season and decline as fish are harvested and as warmer water temperatures force trout to seek areas of colder refuge. Fall is often overlooked by anglers, can be an ideal time as fish that have been growing all summer become more active around the lake with cooler temperatures.

Bulson Creek Falls

Bulson Creek Falls Mount Vernon WA

Bulson Creek Falls is a short trail hike away where a breathtaking view awaits. The falls plunge a nearly sheer 64 feet over an amphitheater-like sandstone cliff into a narrow gully framed with a surprisingly lengthy set of cliffs which guard the creek along the south side of the ravine.

Bulson Creek is not a large stream, it's fed primarily by Sixteen Lake just a short distance upstream, and the small basin above it. Any snow which may fall here during the winter months will melt off quickly, so the stream will rely almost entirely on rainfall to persist through the year. This means that during the summer months the falls will likely run dry, or very close to dry, so the best time to visit is during the rainy season between November and May.
